Located on the health sciences campus of Western Virginia University, Milan Puskar Stadium seats over 60,000 and is known to WVU students as "Mountaineer Field." Built in 1980, the new football field replaced the old Mountaineer Field that was originally located downtown.
The new Mountaineer Field was renamed in 2004 after a $20 million donation was given to the university by Morgantown resident Milan Puskar. The stadium features 30 luxury seats throughout and 648 club seats in the north end zone, known as the "Touchdown Terrace." Plans are underway for a future expansion that will add 10,000 - 15,000 seats. Milan Puskar Stadium is currently the largest on-campus facility in the Big East Conference.
The West Virginia Mountaineers are an NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision Team. The Mountaineers hold the title as the only Football Bowl Subdivision Team with the most wins to have never won a National Championship. They have had two undefeated seasons in 1988 and 1993 and have come extremely close to grabbing the title in the past.
In 2007, the WVU Mountaineers achieved a new school record by starting as the #3 ranked football team. They went on to finish out the season with their third consecutive 11-win season after their victory in the Fiesta Bowl. Always a fierce competitor, the Mountaineers are definitely a team to look out for and their games are an invigorating experience!
